A service provider must be clear on the offer.

- A product specialist or product manager may only have expertise in the hardware component of an offer.
- A software specialist or product manager in software would only have limited knowledge in the subject without authority to directly influence the other component types in the offer.
- A Service specialist or service manager would not directly influence yet may prescribe the appropriate way to position the service in an offer.
